Introduction to Laser Hair Removal

If you’ve ever waxed your upper lip the morning of a meeting and then watched the redness refuse to fade, you already know why people switch to laser. Threading every two weeks gets old. Razors give you stubble by sundown. Wax hurts and the regrowth is patchy. Laser is the one option that actually thins the hair down over time so you stop scheduling your life around it.

That said, not all laser is the same. The machine matters. The doctor matters. The number of sessions you’re sold matters even more. At Dr. Swetha’s Cosmoderm Centre, a skin clinic in Indiranagar, Bangalore, we’ve been doing laser hair reduction for over a decade. So this guide is the same thing I’d tell you across the consultation desk: real numbers, no upsell.

Cost of Laser Hair Removal in Bangalore

Pricing in Bangalore is all over the place. Some clinics quote ₹500 a session for the upper lip and others quote ₹3,000 for the same area. The difference is rarely the laser. It’s usually the dermatologist supervision, the brand of the device, and whether they cut corners on session length.

Here’s what realistic Indiranagar pricing looks like in 2026:

  • Upper lip / chin: ₹1,500 to ₹2,500 per session
  • Underarms: ₹2,000 to ₹3,500 per session
  • Full face: ₹3,500 to ₹6,000 per session
  • Bikini line: ₹3,000 to ₹5,500 per session
  • Full arms: ₹4,500 to ₹8,000 per session
  • Full legs: ₹6,500 to ₹12,000 per session
  • Full body: ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per session, usually packaged

If a clinic quotes you ₹699 for full body, walk out. They’re either using a low-energy diode that won’t touch Indian skin properly, or they’ve split each anatomical area so thin that you’ll need triple the sessions to see the same result. It’s not cheaper. It’s slower.

How Laser Hair Removal Works

Medical technician operates a treatment device with a tablet while a patient reclines in a spa-like clinic room nearby.

The laser fires a wavelength of light that’s absorbed by the melanin sitting inside the hair follicle. That energy turns into heat. The heat damages the follicle just enough to stop it from producing a thick, pigmented hair the next time round. Skin around the follicle stays untouched, which is why it’s safe when done right.

For Indian skin, the machine choice is everything. We use the Soprano ICE platinum, which combines diode wavelengths and runs at a temperature the skin can tolerate. Older alexandrite-only systems can leave burns or pigmentation marks on Type IV and V skin. That’s not a small detail. That’s the whole game.

One thing most clinics won’t tell you upfront: laser only catches hair in the active growth phase. At any point, only about 20 to 30 per cent of your follicles are in that phase. So the first session knocks out a chunk, but the rest are sleeping. That’s why you need a series, not a single shot.

Sessions for Effective Results

The honest answer for most people is six to eight sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart, to get to about 80 to 90 per cent reduction. After that, a maintenance session once or twice a year keeps the smooth phase going.

Hormonal areas behave differently. PCOS, thyroid issues, and hirsutism complicate the timeline. Chin and jaw hair in women, for example, can need ten or more sessions and ongoing top-ups because the body keeps stimulating new follicles. We screen for this at the consult so you’re not blindsided three months in.

Light, fine, blonde, or grey hair won’t respond to laser at all. The light needs pigment to lock onto. We tell people this on day one rather than after they’ve paid for a package. If your hair is too light, electrolysis or other dermatology options make more sense.

What to Expect During Your Laser Hair Removal Session

First time, the consult takes 20 minutes. Skin type assessment, medical history, hormonal questions, a small patch test if needed. The actual treatment for an upper lip takes maybe four minutes. Underarms, ten. Full legs, around an hour.

Most people say it feels like a warm rubber band snap. The Soprano runs cooler than older lasers, so it’s bearable. We don’t use numbing cream for small areas because it slows you down and isn’t usually needed. For full bikini or full leg first-timers, we’ll offer it.

You’re in and out. No stitches, no downtime. People go straight back to work after the upper lip. After underarms, you might want to skip the deodorant for 24 hours, and that’s it.

Post-Treatment Care and Results

For the first day or two, the area might look slightly red or feel like a mild sunburn. Apply the aloe gel we send you home with. Skip hot showers, gym, sauna, and steam for 48 hours. No active scrubs or AHA serums for three days.

Sunscreen is the rule, not the suggestion. SPF 50, broad spectrum, every morning, on every treated area. Skipping this is the single biggest reason people get pigmentation issues after laser. Bangalore sun is sneaky, even in December.

After the first session, you’ll notice hair shedding for two to three weeks. Looks like regrowth, isn’t. The follicle is pushing out the dead hair. Then there’s a clean phase before the next sleeping follicles wake up. By session three or four, most people can feel the smooth periods getting longer. By session six, the cheeks and underarms are usually done.

There are plenty of laser clinics in Indiranagar. What’s different here is that every session is supervised by a board-certified dermatologist. Dr. Swetha is MBBS, MD (DVL), trained in cosmetic dermatology in the Middle East, and a member of IADVL and the Cosmetic Dermatology Society of India. The plan you get is medical, not a sales script.

We also don’t push the longest package on you. If you have hormonal hair, we tell you. If your hair colour won’t respond, we say so. If six sessions are enough for your case, we don’t try to sell you twelve. That sounds like a low bar, but ask anyone who’s been to a chain.

Patients who come in for laser also pick up other things over time. HydraFacial MD for a glow before a wedding, chemical peels for tan and dullness, Botox once they’re in their thirties. Having one dermatologist who knows your skin from the laser sessions onward is honestly the most underrated part of the deal.

Frequently asked question.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Permanent reduction, yes. Not zero hair forever. Most patients need a top-up once or twice a year after the main course.

How long does one session take?

Upper lip is four minutes. Underarms about ten. Full legs run close to an hour. The clinic runs on time so you’re not waiting around.

Is it safe for Indian skin?

Yes, with the right machine. We use Soprano ICE which is FDA cleared for darker skin. Older alexandrite lasers are riskier on Type IV–VI skin and we don’t use them.

Can I do laser during pregnancy?

No. Pause through the pregnancy and start again three months postpartum. The hormonal shift also changes hair patterns, so timing matters.

How much does full body laser cost in Indiranagar?

Per session it’s ₹15,000 to ₹25,000. A full course of six is usually ₹85,000 to ₹1.4 lakh, depending on the package. We don’t run flash sales — the price is the price.
